Playing Ace Queen in Poker

Playing Ace Queen in a poker game is tricky to do. Referred to as Little Slick, with Big Slick being the more preferred Ace King. It lacks the benefit of the cards being connected, but can be more desirable if the cards are suited.
Many players have a tendency to over play this hand in early position, with there being a few hands that can dominate these cards. While it does have the advantage of being high face cards, it does not have the benefit of being the two highest cards in poker, but still has a number of hands that are more than likely to beat it. You want to stay away from AA and AK as your percentage of winning a hand against these hands are low.
The best hand you could hope for would be a royal flush, the worst hand is high card. More than likely you will hit a straight, or possibly one pair with a good kicker. Rarely will you hit a full house, but it does happen. Be careful when playing the high pair as you may find yourself losing a large chip stack to a player in later position who is holding AK.
Raising before the flop on this hand in late position is advisable, since this is considered a strong hand. It should be assumed that if a flop proves to be beneficial for this hand that raising is mandatory to be portrayed as an aggressive player, and to put the odds of the hand in your favor.
It is safe to say that not playing Ace Queen would be a bad move. Folding before a flop with a top ten hand is always a bad idea. It is not necessarily a bad idea to fold after the flop, if the flop proves to hold a much lower straight draw, or any other cards that are not beneficial to your hand.
